Ayo! 👋 Hope y'all have wonderful weekends. 🙌 Looking back on this past week, what was something you were proud of accomplishing? All wins count ...

Gave my talk about debugging, it was well attended. Got accepted to speak at a Jug in Japan. I applied mostly so I can take my daughter whose going through a huge Japanophile phase.

Attended a workshop about making videos, I feel I should have been giving the workshop.

Chrome 111 finally dropped, and with it the CSS trigonometric functions calcs gained decent browser support (Safari and Firefox both had it for a while already) - so I went to town.

  • I expanded my last weeek's codepen - a 3D donut - with some interactivity:

Blogged about it, too - just to do some writing, which I had zero time and energy for in the past weeks.

  • Created another one from scratch - based on a dodecahedron, which I did a bunch of times before, but never this kind of geometry. With faux metallic shading, no less!

Blog post underway, if only to gush about the many possibilities of expanding on the geometry of the dodecahedron.

And even though I devoted my life to these sweet little nothings - and they make me happy - I did some actual webdeving this week, too, in updating/expanding my old CSS-only lightbox. Nothing much, and still work-in-progress, but I am so in love with inputs, variables and the :is() pseudo-class right now.

I feel like this is my win every couple weeks lol but always seems to hold true:

coming off the end of a particularly brutal sprint so I'm v hyped to take the weekend off and play some video games or work on personal projects lol

How about you Michael?! What wins did you have this week? :~)

P.S. btw ik this isn't the music thread lol but since our convo last week about Modest Mouse I've integrated them into my daily listening so thank you again for the rec!

Thanks for asking, Chris! And congrats on making it through you sprint. 🙌 (What ya gaming on by the way?)

Haha! Well, that's a definite win in my book. Always makes me happy to turn somebody onto some good tunage!

But, aside from that, I'm happy to have wrapped up my work week nicely. Next week, I'm gonna be on vacation in Cancun for my sister-in-law's destination wedding all week long 🎊 so it's nice to know that everything is all set ahead of that!

And a side win — since ya mentioned gaming, I've gotten back into it. A friend gave me their PS4 and I've been playing loads of Ghosts of Tsushima. It's so much fun!

My win was finally realizing I was using a reference to the same initial value in two different slate editors, that caused issues when I edited the content of one of them. 🤦

This past week, one of my points of focus was getting better-acquainted with git and GitHub. I'm starting to drop code into GitHub on the regular and trying to build a habit around writing code daily.

I think I dodged a bullet. Had almost said yes (not in as many words). It was for a partner role with no prior working exp together, so wanted to do some due diligence, which appeared slow moving to them (maybe justified). But Red flag IMO.

Anyway it is, what it is :-)
