because most devs do suck at being devs? lol.
in all seriousness, it's because our industry is in constant flux and if you're not learning new things constantly, you've already fallen behind and will never catch up.
You can focus and be niche or try to learn as many tools and services as possible so you can solve most any problem.
With AI tools this is relatively doable but still requires the dev to learn how, what, and when to seek information
