Losing a Software Team: Challenges and Solutions - Part 1

In addition to the challenges of keeping a software development team engaged and productive, there is also the difficulty of hiring new developers who truly add value to the team. Often, as in my team's case, these hires are merely to fill the gap left by another developer who, inevitably, decided to leave.

This week, we welcomed a new developer to a team already weakened by poor organization and people management.

He arrived full of energy and enthusiasm, ready to contribute. However, he spent two days idle, sitting next to our Scrum Master with no tasks or guidance. On the third day, he simply got up, gathered his belongings, and left, saying he felt anxious because he wasn’t being utilized.

What are the chances of him staying at the company for a year?
