So Sora shut down on March 24, 2026. Just... gone. The API, the app, sora.com — all of it.
I had a production app using Sora's video generation API. Spent a frantic weekend migrating. Here's what I found.
TL;DR
The best Sora replacement is Kling 3.0 Pro via NexaAPI — same cinematic quality, native audio, and it's actually 3x cheaper than Sora was.
The Migration
Old code (RIP):
# This no longer works
response = openai.video.generate(model="sora", prompt="...")
New code (5 minutes to migrate):
# pip install nexaapi
from nexaapi import NexaAPI
client = NexaAPI(api_key='YOUR_FREE_API_KEY') # Free at nexa-api.com
response = client.video.generate(
model='kling-3.0-pro',
prompt='Your original prompt here',
duration=5,
aspect_ratio='16:9'
)
print(response.video_url)
Price Comparison
| Model | NexaAPI Price | What I was paying |
|---|---|---|
| Kling 3.0 Pro | $0.0333/sec | ~$0.10/sec (Sora) |
| Sora 2 | $0.07/sec | $0.20/sec (direct) |
| Veo 3 | $0.15/sec | $0.40/sec (direct) |
I'm saving about 67% on my monthly video generation bill. Silver lining?
What I Like About NexaAPI
- One API key for ALL video models (Kling, Veo, Sora 2, Wan, etc.)
- No waitlists — instant access
- Pay-per-use, no monthly minimums
- The SDK is basically identical to OpenAI's
