Day 1077 : Working On It

liner notes:

  • Professional : Pretty good day. Had a couple of meetings. Responded to some community questions. Got some new features implemented in a test application. Had some conversations about them to try and improve the developer experience.

  • Personal : Went to a shed manufacturer to get a quote for the workshop I'm looking to make for my new business. It's kind of amazing the web technology that was used. They basically pulled up a website on the computer to create the quote. You could see a 3D representation of the shed and customize pretty much everything and see it reflected in the render instantly. You could move doors and windows around. Some wild stuff! haha Ordered an item with my business credit card to see if it will qualify for 5% cash back. If it does, I'll order more things from that store. Signed up for some business accounts. Went through some tracks for the radio show. Stayed up and fixed this 3D model that had a weird defect. It looked fine on the screen, but when I put in the 3D printer software and printed it, it had a piece missing. I kind of had a clue of what the issue was, but I wasn't familiar enough at the time with the CAD software to really be sure. Some time has passed and I created other models since then. I basically went back over all the steps and changed some things using the knowledge I picked up since then and being a little more versed in what keywords to look up. I found a feature that allowed me to recreate the shape, but in a different way. I stayed up pretty late working on it, but I got it done!!

A turquoise glacial lake surrounded by evergreen trees and snow-capped mountains. The location is Moraine Lake, AB, Canada.

So, I printed the 3D model that I worked on last night and it came out just like how I wanted. I get a very similar feeling with coding. I have an idea in my head and I'm able to create it. With coding, it's a web application / site and with 3D printing, it's something I can actually hold in my hands. There's a lot of stumbling along the way, but I feel great when I figure it out and see it. Plus I get to learn a lot of new things and see different possibilities. Going to go through Bandcamp and pick up some projects for this week and get the social media posts ready. I'd like to have the starter set of tracks completed. As far as 3D printing, I want to start on a coaster holder for a project that I would like to get printed this week, so it to some folks and ship it to them. This could be a really big deal for my company if they like what they see. Good news is that I think I can do some modifications to another 3D model I made to be a pretty good starting point for it. We'll see. Going to get started.

Have a great night!

peace piece
