Hey DEV community! 👋
I recently launched Calculatorica — a free, open collection of over 1,000 online calculators spanning finance, health, math, science, construction, and everyday use.
Why I built this
I kept running into the same problem: every time I needed a quick calculation — mortgage amortization, BMI, compound interest, unit conversions — I'd end up on ad-heavy sites with minimal explanation of the formulas behind the numbers. I wanted a single place where every calculator also teaches you how the math works.
What makes it different
- Educational content on every page — formulas, worked examples, and FAQs so you actually understand the calculation, not just the result
- 1,000+ calculators across categories like finance, health, and math
- State-specific finance tools — mortgage and tax calculators customized for all 50 U.S. states
- No signup required — everything is free and works instantly
- Modern UI with PWA support — works great on mobile
Useful tools for developers
Even as a dev, I find myself reaching for these regularly:
- Compound Interest Calculator — for financial planning and modeling
- Mortgage Calculator — helpful when comparing housing costs across states
- BMI Calculator — quick health check with context on what the numbers mean
- Calorie Calculator — daily nutrition targets based on your activity level
- Unit converters, percentage calculators, date/time tools, and more
Tech stack
The site is built as a fast, lightweight web app with a focus on performance and SEO. Every page is optimized to load quickly and provide value immediately — no paywalls, no popups, no friction.
Try it out
Check it out at calculatorica.com and let me know what you think! I'd love feedback on which calculators are most useful to you, or suggestions for new ones to add.
Thanks for reading! 🙏
