5 Shopify Mistakes That Quietly Kill Sales (and How to Fix Them)

When a Shopify store gets visitors but few orders, the cause is usually not the product. It's friction. These are the five problems I see most often when reviewing small stores.

1. A slow theme loaded with apps. Every app can add scripts to every page. Uninstall apps you don't use (and remove their leftover code), compress images, and stick with a lightweight theme. Test with PageSpeed Insights on mobile.

2. Weak product photos. Shoppers can't touch the product, so photos do the selling. Use consistent backgrounds, show scale and detail, and add at least one lifestyle shot. Keep image sizes consistent so the collection grid looks clean.

3. No social proof near the buy button. Reviews, ratings, a clear returns policy and secure-payment badges should sit close to Add to Cart, not hidden in the footer.

4. Surprise shipping costs. Unexpected costs at checkout are one of the biggest reasons for abandoned carts. Show shipping costs or a free-shipping threshold on the product page and in an announcement bar.

5. A clunky mobile checkout. Most store traffic is mobile. Turn on Shop Pay and other express wallets, keep forms short, and place a test order from your own phone.

Quick checklist: fast theme, sharp photos, reviews near the button, upfront shipping, smooth mobile checkout.
