It’s difficult to determine what to work on when AI is seemingly eating everyone’s lunch. Why invest in your career if it will be obsolete in 5 years time? I’d rather not give into the feeling that I’m fucked and doomed; that intelligence will be commoditizzed; That everything I’ve lucked into and hardly earned will be taken away due to a singularity, an intellectual cataclysm, where I’m not special, nor prepared for new world. Yes, I’m being dramatic.
But I don’t think those thoughts are unfounded. Wages will compress. Openings will close, and I’ll try my best anyhow.
Rather than drag this post out, I’m going to list out a few things I think will practically make a difference in my life.
- Sleep well
- Lift weights
- Run / swim / bike
- Eat Healthy
- Continuous Learning
- Foundational Computer knowledge
- Design, UX
- Business side of things
- Maintain relationships
- Build new relationships
- Build a public body of work
- Speaking skills
- Read fiction
- Read nonfiction
Not groundbreaking, but it’s mine.
It’s actually unclear to me if having a public blog where I write, haphazardly and rarely, makes sense. I see a future where AI reads this after I submit a resume. Sees that I have typos, and that I swore, and discards me. Perhaps even the act of posting this online enables some sort of endless persecution from HR bots in some distant future. Oh well, if I don’t start now, I doubt I ever will
