Preface:
(2020 Second Book)
This book was actually purchased together with "Talk Like TED: The 9 Public-Speaking Secrets of the World's Top Minds", because the author is the same. This one is newer, but because I finished the other two books first, it took me a longer time to savor this one. Recently, I've picked this book back up to read, and found that there are many things that can be further learned and strengthened from the many concepts in the previous book. The whole book is more in-depth and practical to read.
Content Summary:
★ From the bestselling author of "Talk Like TED: The 9 Public-Speaking Secrets of the World's Top Minds," Carmine Gallo's amazing new work! ★
As technology threatens to replace countless jobs and skills,
"Persuasion" will be your key advantage in standing firm in this wave.
AI lets you "know," but great communicators can make you "feel," persuading you to take action.
Having good ideas is no longer enough; five-star communication skills
are the measure of whether you can get promoted, inspire your team, and not be replaced.
Using your eloquence is not about manipulating people; not learning the art of communication and persuasion is shameful!
Summary from Duomo: http://moo.im/a/lmwCEX
"Ideas" refer to organizing the information you want to express and convey in an organized and structured way. Using storytelling and narrative methods to effectively convey it to those in need.
Part 1: Why are Excellent Communicators Irreplaceable?
In terms of the content layout, it first lets people understand the importance of excellent communicators. Top scientists, economists, historians, and business leaders all believe that "ideas" are very important. As early as two thousand three hundred years ago, Aristotle argued that humans are animals of language, and "rhetoric" – that is, the ability to persuade – is both a science and an art.
Part 2: Learn from the Experts
Learn how to effectively organize your thoughts through some experts:
Scientist - Neil deGrasse Tyson, receives two hundred speaking invitations every month, but only gives four talks. He promotes the fun of science through cooler content. "If football is the sun on the 50-yard line, the Earth is on the 15-yard line, then Pluto is a quarter of a mile away, don't think about it anymore." Through interesting analogies to make scientific common sense easier to understand.
In other cases, many examples of entrepreneurs and professionals are also cited to show that "persuasion" not only helps you express your opinions to the other party, but is also an important weapon for you in the company and in the business.
Part 3: Five-Star Communication Skills from A to A+
The content here also extends from the content of "Talk Like TED: The 9 Public-Speaking Secrets of the World's Top Minds", talking about the importance of storytelling ability, and improving your storytelling ability through "emotional appeal" and "story structure".
Thoughts:
This book explains the "importance of communication" and "what is good communication?" in a step-by-step manner, and also constructs a "formula for good communication." Finally, it should "gain empathy through stories," and finally, it constantly emphasizes how to construct a good story and how to lay out a good story.
The key to a good story lies in clarity of focus, simple vocabulary, and acceptance and absorption by people through analogies. These words are like Dr. King's constantly revised speeches, "I have a dream...", and also like President Lincoln's constantly revising his speeches before taking the stage, hoping to use simple words to make it easier for the audience to remember, understand, and absorb.
This is a book that is highly recommended to be read two or three times, and it is also recommended to be read again every once in a while. There are really many methods and suggestions inside ~ as long as you can absorb one or two items, you will be a great speaker. But to truly master it, it takes time to refine.
