Preface

Hello everyone, I am Evan Lin from the LINE Taiwan Developer Relations team. After more than a year of effort from LINE Developer Relations, I would like to summarize what the entire team has done in this article, and I also hope to provide an annual report for the "LINE Developer Community Program".

According to the original introduction article (Introducing Developer Relations team) written by LINE Developer Relations, the main goals of this team are clearly defined as follows:

  • External Evangelism: Encouraging developers to use LINE's platform, APIs, and SDKs to develop attractive and interesting application services. (Encouraging people to make attractive and interesting services using the APIs and the SDK by LINE)
  • Internal Evangelism: Helping engineers grow and hone themselves through various means (Doing whatever our engineers feel difficult to do themselves in making improvements at work)
  • Technical Branding and Hiring: Letting more people know that being a LINER (LINE employees' self-proclaimed title) involves many interesting and exciting things. (Letting people know how fun and exciting it is for engineers to work at LINE)

The previous article has clearly defined External Evangelism, and the following will further explain Technical Branding and Hiring.

Article List:

Technical Branding and Hiring: Letting more people know that being a LINER (LINE employees' self-proclaimed title) involves many interesting and exciting things.

As a technology-based technology company, LINE requires developers for many underlying architectures and services. However, LINE's technology brand awareness is an area that needs continuous effort, so another important task for Developer Relations is to let more developers know that LINE Taiwan has a considerable number of developers, and there are many interesting job openings here that need the participation of experts from all fields.

Community Meetup Co-organization Invitation (Community Meetup)

Starting this year, LINE Taiwan not only holds community events itself, but also welcomes various technical communities to hold community gatherings at the LINE Taiwan office. In addition to hoping to communicate more with the community, LINE will also provide internal developers to share relevant development experiences with everyone. Does the developer readers know that LINE internally actively participates in Test Corner, TWJUG, Chatbots, and Golang TW communities? Furthermore, LINE uses technologies related to iOS, Android, Kotlin, Functional Programming, Kubernetes, Rancher, machine learning, and data processing in its development? All communities are welcome to apply and exchange ideas.

Over the year, a total of 15 open-source technology community gatherings were held at the LINE office, and we cooperated with many communities, allowing many communities to understand that LINE also has related development technology engineers, and each colleague has an open attitude and is willing to share.

Here, we would also like to thank the following communities for their enthusiastic participation, and we look forward to more technical communities co-organizing related community events in 2020.

LINE Annual Developer Recruitment Conference LINE Developer Recruitment Day

LINE Taiwan Developers Recruitment Day is a public recruitment event for developers. We invite excellent candidates who have passed the online preliminary test to participate in the interview. In addition, we have also planned a full day of product and service introductions, and we welcome the invited developers to come and learn.

Through this event, more developers can also learn that LINE Taiwan has a considerable number of development positions waiting for experts from all fields to join.

Technical Seminars (COSCUP, DataCon, JCConf, JSDC)

For the technical seminars, the LINE Developer Relations department also participated in COSCUP, DataCon, JCConf and JSDC this year. We also gave a keynote at COSCUP for the first time to share about all of LINE's open source projects (LINE Open Up), and set up booths at these events for LINE Taiwan engineers to communicate and discuss with everyone.

We also found that in each exchange and interaction, in addition to feeling the passion of LINERs sharing, we can also feel the love and curiosity of every developer for LINE services. Everyone wants to explore the technical architecture content of the services they use every day, and we also felt the enthusiasm of the engineers' exchanges at the four seminars.

Global AI Hackathon - NAVER x LINE AI-Rush

At the LINE DEVELOPER DAY 2018 held in Tokyo, Japan last year, LINE CTO Park Euibin set the tone for LINE's technological development vision with "Next LINE". Among them, the related technologies in the three major fields of artificial intelligence, blockchain, and financial technology will play a pivotal role, and with the two keywords "Connect" and "Mutually Beneficial Ecosystem", he pointed out the concrete value brought by the realization of "Next LINE", allowing LINE's services to continue to evolve.

In order to explore more possibilities of AI and provide a platform for the AI development community to exchange ideas, LINE will join hands with NAVER, the number one search engine in South Korea, for the first time to hold a cross-national hackathon on the theme of artificial intelligence, "AI RUSH 2019".

Through this joint event, we are very happy that four teams from Taiwan entered the finals. The final finals were held at the NAVER Connect One venue in Chuncheon, South Korea. During the finals, we could feel everyone's enthusiastic participation. Although the Taiwanese teams did not win the championship in the end, they also became friends with the participants from Japan and South Korea through exchanges, and everyone became comrades on the road of AI learning.

Conclusion

This is the last article summarizing the results of LINE Developer Relations in 2019. Thank you for watching.

Developer Relations is never an easy road. Due to their own desire for technical exchange, developers are still willing to use their free time after work to participate in technical communities to get to know more like-minded people and hone their skills. Therefore, as staff of Developer Relations and Technical Promotion, we need to have more enthusiasm to plan in-depth and meaningful activities to make every hard-working developer happy and exchange ideas.
