# Week 2: Write Clear and Complete Reports

## Strong Sentences Part 1: Verb Tense & Parallel Structure

### Verb Tense

- **Simple Present**
  - Present tense, describing things, Fact
- **Progression Present**
  - Progressive tense
  - Right now
  - Usually not used in writing

#### Pararell Structure

- and / but / or
- The parts of speech on both sides must be consistent (e.g. N and N, V or V, Adj but Adj)
- e.g.
  - Our estiumates are accurate, detailed, and thorough. (Adj)

#### Subject Verbs Agreement

- Actually, it's he/she/it paired with verb + -s to match the same type.
- Always treated as singular:
  - One of …
  - Every …
  - Everyone / Everybody …
  - Each …

#### Key points of related tenses:

- Use the "past tense" for annual reports, because you need to state past achievements.
- Use the "future tense" for outlook documents, because you need to describe what you will accomplish in the future.

### Peer Review Assignment: Write a Proposal

Write a proposal to promote your service or product, and you must pay attention to the following parts:

- Explain the product and describe in detail the problem it solves
- Is it clear enough
- Can it meet customer needs
- Can it be clearly understood

#### Choose one of the two backgrounds to write:

- You are a human resources provider, and you have many potential candidates. You want to recommend them to an IT company.
- Your website provides website and SNS services to local businesses, and they want to enhance their image through the Internet.

#### The structure of the article must include:

- The writer uses verb tenses correctly.
- The writer uses parallel structure correctly.
- The writer uses correct subject verb agreement.
