Preface:

This is the tenth book I've read this year.

Hot off the press, Tang Feng's new book is available! https://t.co/WC4TxhnoTH https://t.co/H9qfsKcvaT

— Readmoo eBook (@Readmoo) November 3, 2020

I noticed this book, seemingly because Suiting Tseng's twitter was asking Readmoo if they could carry this ebook. It was available in a day (wow!). So I couldn't resist and bought it. At first, I was curious that this book was published by "Global Views Monthly," a publisher specializing in parenting-related topics. After reading it, I found the content quite appealing. Besides telling a fascinating history of the information world (Perl6-related development), it also mentioned the Sunflower Student Movement and the rise of g0v. The related educational interactions are even more thought-provoking, especially recommended for new parents to read.

Content Summary and Thoughts:

"Everything about me is open and transparent here;
I will share with you the freedom and future I see."
The first book approved by Tang Feng, connecting her past and present, looking far into the freedom and future, a profound work.

Unveiling the behind-the-scenes thinking of the god-like citizen hacker, Taiwan's anti-epidemic hero, hailed by the Japanese media as a "genius IT minister";
Understanding her values of going beyond all frameworks, advocating for moving from conquering to empowering,
Using unconditional love and freedom to move towards the "Tang Feng Style" of sharing and collaboration.

Chapter 1: Thirty-five-year-old Digital Minister Chapter 2: Genius Child Chapter 3: Self-taught Youth Chapter 4: Mentors and Teammates Chapter 5: A Person Who Transcends Gender Chapter 6: Citizen Hacker in a Democratic Society Chapter 7: Tang Feng's Suggestions: Imagining the Future World and Technology

At the beginning of the book, it starts with Tang Feng, who has recently become known to everyone. The government's public data connection for the mask map, initiating the participation of civilian experts. In just a few weeks, there were nearly a hundred related applications for mask maps on the market (advertisement: LINE Bot also has more than 20). This created a wave of citizen hackathons, allowing every developer to enthusiastically join and create their own map application to find masks.

This also caught the attention of Japan, as we have a digital minister who is a technical expert. There are also many rumors discussing Tang Feng's IQ of 180, but what is intriguing is how such a genius was created through self-study and education?

The following content revolves around Tang Feng's growing environment. With highly educated parents who value education, a respectful family allowed her to think and have ideas that often led the way for others, allowing her to fully develop. After junior high school, she did not continue her studies and chose to self-study. Through her strong self-study programming ability, she met senior figures in the information field through the computer club at Jianzhong High School, which made her learning even faster. Learning in the Perl community also improved her foreign language skills, and she also experienced the management and co-growth of the hacker community through the development and maintenance of related packages. This is the rise of the citizen hacker and g0v.

Finally, this book also depicts her thoughts on the future through Tang Feng's suggestions. William Gibson's famous quote: "The future is already here – it's just not evenly distributed."

Thoughts:

Although this book starts from the perspective of child education, it also touches upon the history of the information world. Whether it mentions the Yili Association, the development process of Perl6, or even the rise of g0v, there is quite a lot of emphasis, which also gave me the opportunity to catch up on related information and stories.

But what truly amazed me about this book is, of course, Tang Feng's family's way of educating her. From her family, it can be seen that not only is she talented, but she also needs the strong support of her family and teachers to allow such a talented child to grow according to her own ideas, not being bound by the secular education system and academic performance requirements. Just like the author wrote this sentence:

"At first, we thought we were writing a legend of a genius, but later we found that we were actually writing the story of an ordinary person, the life that everyone has once expected in their hearts: to be able to learn and explore without limits, to be loved by family and friends, to be able to do the work they love most, to be able to live without worries, and to be able to make contributions to society. The difference is that Tang Feng has tried and walked an unusual path."

I highly recommend everyone to read this book.
