Bluesky is trying to build something bigger than a single social media app, but its main platform is currently seeing fewer regular users.
According to Similarweb data, Bluesky had around 10.4 million monthly active mobile users worldwide in June 2026.
That is a 27.2% drop compared with the same period last year.
The slowdown is quite different from late 2024, when Bluesky saw a big jump in users as many people looked for an alternative to X after the U.S. election.
While the app is losing some regular activity, Bluesky is putting more focus on AT Protocol.
Its open technology is designed to connect different social platforms and online communities.
The company is also working on new projects, including Attie, an AI-powered research tool, and exploring more private ways for people to interact online.
Bluesky now has nearly 46 million registered accounts, but that number does not tell us how many people are still using the platform regularly.
The bigger challenge for Bluesky is turning its growing technology ecosystem into steady user activity.
Its next phase could depend on whether more developers, communities, and users join that wider network.
