Bumble is changing one of the features that has made the dating app different for years.
From now on, either person in a match can send the first message.
When Bumble launched in 2014, women had to make the first move in heterosexual matches.
That rule became a big part of the app’s identity and was meant to give women more control over conversations.
Now, Bumble is taking a more flexible approach.
The company says users will have more freedom to decide who starts the chat, based on what its community wants.
There is another change too. Matches will now have up to 72 hours to reply instead of just 24 hours, giving people more time to respond without feeling rushed.
Bumble says 66% of women in its survey would prefer men to send the first message, while many users also said they liked having extra time to reply.
These updates come as Bumble deals with lower revenue, fewer paying users, and growing competition in the dating app market.
The company is also testing new ways to improve dating, including real-world events, less focus on swiping, and AI-powered features.
