Reddit Tests TikTok-Style Audio and Video for Popular Posts

Reddit is trying out a new way to enjoy popular posts without having to read every line.

The platform is testing audio and video versions of selected text posts, taking a cue from the short-form content style popular on TikTok and Instagram Reels.

With the new feature, users can still read a post as usual or simply tap play to listen to or watch it.

The test is currently available on Reddit’s iOS and Android apps for selected English-language posts.

The idea makes sense because Reddit stories are already being turned into narrated videos on platforms like TikTok and Instagram.

Reddit now wants to see how this type of content works directly inside its own app.

Audio could also be useful when people are busy with other things, such as walking, working out, or travelling.

Longer Reddit discussions could feel more like something you can listen to rather than something you always need to sit down and read.

Importantly, Reddit is not removing its usual text-based format.

Users can still read posts, check comments, vote, and join discussions just as they always have.

The audio and video versions are simply another way to enjoy the same content.

For now, Reddit is testing the feature with selected posts and communities.

The results will help the company decide whether the idea is worth bringing to more users.

It will be interesting to see whether Reddit users take to this new format or continue to prefer the platform’s classic text-and-comment style.
