While building ResumeForge, I spent a lot of time looking at how fresher resumes fail. The same three mistakes kept showing up on software developer resumes:
1. An objective paragraph that says nothing
"Seeking a challenging role in a reputed organisation" could be pasted onto any resume in the world. It tells a recruiter nothing about you.
2. A skills list with no proof
Twelve technologies listed, but the projects section proves maybe three of them. Recruiters assume the rest is decoration.
3. Projects described by what the app does, not what you built
"A food delivery app with login and payments" describes a product. It does not say what you wrote, what you decided, or what broke and got fixed.
So I published a complete example of the fixed version. The Software Developer example on ResumeForge has projects first, every bullet tied to something real that was built, only the skills the projects prove, and a clean one column layout that ATS software can read properly.
You can read the full example here: https://resumeforge.forgework.workers.dev/resume-examples/software-developer?utm_source=devto&utm_medium=community&utm_campaign=examples
Full disclosure: I built ResumeForge. Reading the example is free, and if you build your resume there, downloading it is free too. We never charge for your own resume file.
For those of you who review junior developer resumes: what do you look at first?
