This guide compares them side by side using each vendor's own pricing and product pages as checked on October 9, 2026. Where a number isn't published, we say "see vendor site" instead of guessing. We've tried to be fair about when Smith.ai or Goodcall is the better fit.

Smith.ai AI Receptionist starts at $0 for 25 calls a month (then $3 per call) or $150 for 75 calls on Pro, with optional live-agent escalation. Goodcall bills per unique customer from $79 a month (100 customers, then 79¢ each) with no per-minute charges. HighLevel Voice AI is usage-based (about $0.06 per minute before tokens and phone charges) or $50 / $97 per month on AI Employee plans, on top of a HighLevel plan from $97 a month, and it sits inside the same CRM that runs missed call text back. Pick Smith.ai for AI plus human backup, Goodcall for a predictable AI-only bill, and HighLevel when you also want CRM, texting, and calendars in one stack.

Smith.ai AI Receptionist
Smith.ai publishes three AI Receptionist tiers. Prices are month-to-month; Smith.ai says canceling needs 30 days' notice.

Live agent add-on: Smith.ai's help center says that when you configure live-agent involvement for verification or scheduling, each such call is billed at a flat +$3 on top of the base per-call rate (effective as of November 20, 2025 per Smith.ai). AI-initiated system escalations are listed as +$0. Confirm the current add-on rate in your Smith.ai account before you budget.

Goodcall
Goodcall bills per AI agent and meters unique customers (one phone number that actually speaks to the agent in a given month). It says it does not charge for minutes, call counts, or AI tokens. A local number is included; you can forward your existing number.
