I built a voice-controlled snooker scorekeeper for iPhone

I've played snooker for decades, and for just as long I've been annoyed by the same thing: breaking my focus after every shot to tap a scorekeeping app.

So I built SnookScore, an iPhone app that keeps score by voice.

Say the ball ("red", "pink", "black"), "another" for a repeat, or "miss" and it tracks the frame for you. Fouls, free balls, the endgame color sequence - the full rule set is handled.

The hardest parts

  • The game logic. Snooker scoring has more edge cases than you'd think (foul and a miss, free ball after a snooker, the endgame colors...). Modeling the frame state correctly took the most time.
  • Interpreting voice commands against the current frame state. "Blue" means something different when only the colors remain.

It runs fully offline using Apple's on-device speech recognition, so it works even in a basement club with no signal.

I'm an indie maker - I wrote the app myself, with a bit of AI help (and AI helped me polish this post too).

Free to download and play, with paid advanced features. Would love feedback from anyone who plays!
