The Beginning of Something New
Some experiences mark an important milestone in your journey, and hosting my first-ever meetup in Mumbai was definitely one of them.
On September 26, 2026, I had the opportunity to host OpenSearch Mumbai: Search, AI & Observability, bringing together developers, technology enthusiasts, and professionals passionate about search technology, artificial intelligence, and observability.
What started as an idea to build a community around open-source search technology turned into a real-world gathering filled with technical discussions, knowledge sharing, and meaningful connections.
For me, this was more than just organizing an event. It was about taking the first step toward building a community where people can learn, collaborate, and grow together.
Introducing OpenSearch User Group Mumbai
The OpenSearch User Group Mumbai was created with a simple vision: to bring together people passionate about search technology, AI, analytics, and observability.
I believe developer communities play an important role in helping people explore new technologies, exchange ideas, and learn from real-world experiences.
With this meetup, we took our first step toward creating a space where developers, students, and technology professionals could connect and explore the evolving world of search and AI.
Seeing this idea come to life was one of the most rewarding parts of the experience.
OpenSearch Mumbai: Search, AI & Observability
Our first meetup took place on September 26, 2026, from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM IST at the MSSU I-Spark Foundation Incubator, Vidyavihar, Mumbai.
The event brought together two insightful technical sessions covering different aspects of the OpenSearch ecosystem, from AI-powered search to running OpenSearch on Kubernetes.

Another key highlight was the session by Nikita Shinde, who explored running OpenSearch on Kubernetes through the operator-based approach.
Kubernetes has become an important platform for deploying and managing modern applications, and operating distributed systems on it comes with its own set of challenges.
Nikita's session focused on the operator approach to running OpenSearch on Kubernetes, offering attendees an opportunity to understand how Kubernetes operators can help manage OpenSearch deployments.

What I Learned From Hosting My First Meetup
Organizing my first meetup taught me a lot about community building, event coordination, and the effort required to bring people together.

From coordinating with speakers and venue partners to welcoming attendees, organizing an event requires collaboration and communication.
