Amazon updated Alexa with over 100 new shopping-related capabilities, introducing expanded API-driven flows for subscription management, delivery instruction updates, and payment issue resolution just ahead of the holiday season.
How the revamped Alexa helps with shopping
The upgrade gives users the ability to organize shopping lists, add or change products, and manage subscriptions using their voice. Users can now request to change the delivery frequency of a product, such as every three months instead of every month.
Additionally, they can correct delivery instructions, such as changing the address or details of where the delivery person will drop off the package. Alexa can also answer questions about subscriptions like Prime or Audible, as well as help resolve issues related to payments and billing.
The growing use of digital assistants
The company said that over the past 12 months, more than 400 million consumers have used Alexa to shop. Amazon said that use of such automated features has increased eightfold since the beginning of the year, and the company has also launched other AI-powered shopping features this year, such as search tools and product updates.
