Anthropic finds difficulties in Amazon, Google and Microsoft for computing power

A leaked S-1 filing ahead of a reported November IPO reveals that Anthropic is struggling to secure cloud capacity from AWS, Google, and Microsoft as major providers increasingly view the company as a competitor.

The firm estimates it could spend over $750 billion on cloud contracts while managing massive scaling costs.

The huge financial demands and data centers

The documents show that the company estimates its total spending on computing power contracts could exceed $750 billion, including deals still under negotiation. At the same time, the company is trying to lease its own space and is working with other providers, but it has expressed concerns that these partners have limited experience in the space.

Financial results and warnings

The figures come after a net loss of $80,7 billion in the first half of the year. In the same period, revenue amounted to $16,3 billion, with about a fifth of sales coming from just two customers.

The documents also warn that the company may be required to pay compensation for any damages caused by harmful behaviors of artificial intelligence, even in cases where the amounts would exceed its insurance coverage.
