Apple Music gets new black-and-white icon and different logo

Apple is introducing a new design language and rippling logo for Apple Music, built via practical physical effects using mineral oil and acoustic tones.

Developer Andreas Storm spotted the accompanying app icon shift from red to black-and-white in the iOS 27.2 and macOS 27.2 betas.

To create this image, Apple teamed up with music producer Fred Again and company NEST Acoustics. They created the logo by etching it into the glass bottom of a small tank, filling it with mineral oil and covering it with a clear lid. They then used an instrument to play a short series of notes, causing the oil to ripple, which they filmed.

Where will the new design appear and what changes in the application?

This rippled visual effect will appear at the beginning of videos and live streams of the service. At the same time, the actual app icon will change from red to black and white. This icon change has already caused negative comments online.

When are the changes coming?

These changes are expected to be released with the company's next software updates, such as iOS 27.2 and macOS 27.2. Developer Andreas Storm spotted the icon update in the fourth beta on October 13, 2026.
