Apple announced the Apple Home Collection, a smart home hardware ecosystem developed with LG Electronics and Schneider Electric.
The lineup includes cameras, locks, and thermostats featuring end-to-end encryption, Home app integration, and Matter support for select devices.
The majority of the devices are made by LG and include an indoor and outdoor camera, door lock, video doorbell and thermostat, while Schneider Electric designed an additional thermostat for the collection. LG's outdoor camera features a spotlight option, motion detection, face, pet and package recognition, and connection to iCloud+ storage.
The video doorbell includes a downward-facing camera to view the floor, night lighting, and notifications through HomePod speakers. LG's lock senses when an iPhone or Apple Watch is near to unlock automatically, and it also has a nine-digit keypad.
Thermostats and sensors from both companies help regulate home temperatures to save energy. Setup is done by simply holding your iPhone near the device and following the on-screen instructions to add it to the management app. Communication is protected with end-to-end encryption and is managed exclusively through Apple devices.
In terms of compatibility, the devices, in addition to the cameras and doorbells, also work with other platforms that support the common Matter standard. In contrast, the cameras and doorbells work exclusively with Apple products.
The indoor cameras and thermostats cost $199, the outdoor camera starts at $329 and goes up to $399 with the floodlight, the lock costs $249 and the video doorbell costs $349. The products will be available in December, initially in the United States and Canada through Apple stores, while the cameras will also be available in the United Kingdom before being released more widely.
