BleachBit 6.0.6 released with faster deletion and new features

BleachBit 6.0.6 introduces performance optimizations and expanded cleaning coverage across Linux, Windows, and macOS.

The release improves startup times, switches file wiping to 512 KiB blocks, and adds support for Docker Desktop, Chromium derivatives, and modern developer environments.

Faster startup and file deletion

The app now opens faster thanks to changes that delay loading certain parts until they're needed and reduce startup processes. At the same time, the process of permanently deleting files has become noticeably faster, as it uses larger data chunks instead of smaller ones.

Cleaning for new applications

The new release adds cleanup for the Helium browser and Docker Desktop, including Docker’s AI digital assistant files. It also expands cleanup for Chromium-based browsers, as well as Zen, Claude Code, and VS Code-based code editors.

Fixes for Linux and Windows

On Linux computers, issues with ownership of configuration files when running the application with elevated administrator privileges have been fixed. Fedora and Red Hat distributions now use a different mechanism for booting with administrator privileges, and official installation packages have been added for Ubuntu 26.10 and openSUSE Leap 16.1.

On Windows, we fixed an issue that prevented settings changes from being saved after running the application as an administrator. In addition, we disabled executable file compression to reduce false warnings from security programs and improve startup speed.

What's changing in macOS and other fixes

macOS users get cleanup support for apps like GIMP, VLC, Zoom, TeamViewer, Adobe Acrobat, and Visual Studio Code, along with translation fixes.

General fixes include issues with closing the application using a keyboard shortcut, language selection, application freezing when using CD-ROM, and crashes in environments using Arabic and Hebrew.
