Developer recreates 2009's Call of Duty with artificial intelligence

Developer Maurice Heumann rebuilt the source code of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 in C++ using AI agents over a three-month period.

The project consumed over 500 billion tokens, achieving 99% function coverage and an 83% match with the original game.

Programmer Maurice Heumann presented how autonomous AI programs worked to recreate the game in the C++ programming language. His goal was to achieve an accurate and complete reconstruction of the title.

According to the data he published, almost all of the game's features are now there, with the vast majority of them matching the original perfectly. In his posts on X, he stated that the game is now fully playable, while estimating that the project consumed between 500 and 700 billion data units, with the programs themselves having used over 500 billion.

As for the cost, he noted that he did not pay for this data himself. However, he estimated that its value would be around 1.200 euros if he used monthly subscriptions, or between 200.000 and 250.000 dollars based on normal usage-based billing rates.
