Formlabs released the Form Studio 1 resin 3D printer at $699, bringing high-end features like NFC material recognition, automated resin heating, and remote mobile monitoring to hobbyists and small workshops.
Features and function
The printer has a built-in surveillance camera, a touch screen, and an automatic material recognition system via NFC tags. It also supports automatic heating and mixing of the resin inside the tank, so it can operate even in unheated spaces.
The basic resin tank costs $55, while the professional Resin Tank Pro costs $79 and is required for some materials. Open Material Mode is offered for free with no unlock fees, allowing the use of resins from third-party manufacturers.
Accessories and application
Optional accessories include the Form Studio Wash+Cure station for $199 and the VOC Extractor ventilation system for $179. Meanwhile, the companion mobile app allows for remote print monitoring, snapshots, and job management.
