Google researchers demonstrated end-to-end autonomous task execution by four Gemini 4 Argon AI agents that defeated Minecraft's Ender Dragon without human help.
Operating via the Mineflayer library, the agents wrote 2,783 programs and coordinated through in-game chat over 27.23 hours.
According to researchers at the company, the four programs were left alone in a random survival world. Without being given specific roles or ready-made strategies, the programs divided up the tasks on their own, talked to each other via in-game messages, warned each other of dangers, and shared advice.
How were the roles divided?
During the test, each program took on a role of their own. Some were tasked with creating tools, others with gathering food, while one of the programs took on the task of building shelters and managed to deliver the final blow for victory.
The test numbers
The entire process took over 27 hours. During this time, the programs wrote and ran thousands of their own programs, exchanged hundreds of messages, and “died” hundreds of times.

A fifth program watched the process as an independent observer to check that there were no irregularities. According to the team, this is the first time that artificial intelligence systems have managed to end this particular game completely on their own, using only basic communication tools and without predetermined instructions.
