How Apple's Image Playground works to create images with artificial intelligence

Apple's Image Playground receives significant updates, expanding its AI-powered image generation and Genmoji creation tools across supported Apple Intelligence devices with new natural language prompt options.

The app was originally released in December 2024 and is integrated into various Apple services, such as Messages and Presentations, so you don't have to open a separate app. To use it, you need a device that supports the company's AI features, such as the iPhone 15 Pro, Pro Max, iPhone 16 or later, certain iPads with the M1 processor or later, and Mac computers with at least the M1 chip.

New features in the application

The latest updates bring significant changes to how the app works. Users can now describe the visual style they want in simple, everyday language, rather than being limited to default options.

Additionally, there is the ability to edit images that have already been created, simply by using your finger on the screen and outlining changes. The update also adds the ability to create personalized contact posters and lock screen wallpapers.

How image creation works

When someone opens the app, they can use the text box to describe exactly what they want to make. There's also a menu with different styles available, while the option for personalized emojis saves the creation along with the rest of the stickers.

In addition to typing text, users can select faces from their photos to use as a base, creating images of themselves as an astronaut, for example. There is also a button to use any other photo as a starting point. Once the image is ready, it can be easily shared with friends and acquaintances.
