Laplace Intelligence tests robots and autonomous vehicles in digital environments before they are released into the real world, aiming to identify problems in advance.
The startup, founded a year ago by Howie Sun and chief scientist Henry Liu, is based on research from the University of Michigan published in 2023. The system uses a modified version of Nvidia's Cosmos platform to replicate real-world locations, combining map data and real-time traffic information.
Automatic checks and difficult scenarios
The system uses artificial intelligence programs to automatically design rare and difficult test scenarios. The company's customers include a major Japanese automaker, Bot Auto, and Nvidia, and Laplace is participating in Startup Battlefield 200 at the TechCrunch Disrupt conference in San Francisco in October 2026.
