Apple's 14-inch MacBook Pro with PROLED XDR starts at $2,899.
The review details the base M5 Pro configuration—15-core CPU, 16-core GPU, 24GB of memory and 1TB of storage—and the upgrade costs: $200 for an 18-core CPU/20-core GPU, $600 for 48GB of memory, and $500 to move storage to 2TB.
The tested configuration cost $3,699.
The screen supports touch operation. However, it is easily smudged by fingerprints without the optional coating, and prolonged use of the touch screen is tiring, according to the author. The special nano-texture coating costs an additional $150.
Price and options
The base model, which costs $2.899, has an M5 Pro processor with 15 processing cores and 16 graphics cores, 24GB of memory, and 1TB of storage. The older 14-inch MacBook Pro with M5 Pro and mini-LED display starts at $2.499.
The review unit cost $3.699 and had an upgraded M5 Pro with 18 processing cores and 20 graphics cores, 48GB of memory, and 1TB of storage. If it had the nano-texture coating, it would have cost $3.849.
Upgrading to the M5 Pro with more cores costs $200. 48GB of memory costs an additional $600 on the base model, while the 64GB option adds $1.000. For 2TB of storage instead of 1TB, the extra charge is $500. The 4TB option costs $1.500 more.

The M5 Max versions start at $4.499 and include 36GB of memory and 2TB of storage. The most expensive 14-inch MacBook Pro configuration costs $14.249. The 16-inch version starts at $3.399.
Display and connections
The screen is 14,2 inches in size and has a resolution of 3.024 × 1.986 pixels. It refreshes 120 times per second, which makes movement smoother. Apple promises a brightness of up to 2.000 nits, but the conditions that would show this performance were not present in the usual test of the screen.
The new model is 0,59 inches thick and weighs 3 pounds. The previous model was 0,61 inches thick and weighed 3,4 pounds. Connections include MagSafe for charging, three Thunderbolt 5 ports, HDMI, a headphone jack, and an SDXC card reader.
Performance and battery
In most work and content creation tests, the MacBook Pro with M5 Pro outperformed most laptops we reviewed with it. However, in several graphics tests, the Surface Laptop Ultra with Nvidia graphics was better.
Apple promises up to 22 hours of video playback. In a test with video stored on the computer, the MacBook Pro beat that by more than two hours. In a separate battery life test, it lasted about 40 minutes longer than the next model and more than nine hours longer than the Surface Laptop Ultra.
