KoDaS gives six German states access to IONOS Nextcloud Workspace under a four-year framework agreement.
Built on Nextcloud technology and hosted in German data centers, the open-source platform provides file storage and sharing, online document editing and communication tools.
IONOS handles delivery and infrastructure; adoption by schools and education authorities remains optional.
The agreement was reached after a public tender by govdigital eG and concerns the regions of Berlin, Bremen, Hamburg, Hesse, North Rhine-Westphalia and Rhineland-Palatinate. In the future, there is the prospect of other German states participating.
The initiative is called KoDaS and provides teachers, students and administrators with the IONOS Nextcloud Workspace service, which is hosted in data centers within Germany. Use of the platform is completely optional for each school and educational authority.
Through the platform, users can store and share files, collaborate on documents, and use communication tools. IONOS acts as the prime contractor managing the operation and infrastructure, while Nextcloud provides the open source technology.
