ONLYOFFICE Desktop Editors v10.0 arrives as a complete rebuild with over a thousand bug fixes, changes to setting migrations, and unbundled AI integrations that now require a separate add-on.
The application's creators describe this version as a fully updated version and warn those upgrading from older versions that some of their saved settings and preferences may not be automatically transferred.
How smart features now work
The biggest change is in how the app connects to artificial intelligence tools. These capabilities are no longer included as a built-in add-on within the core program, as they were removed from the open versions following user feedback.
These features are now offered through a separate add-on that the user must download and install. To work, it requires a connection to an external service over the Internet or the use of a local system. Once installed, the add-on can create summaries, answer questions, format text, and collaborate with external data or remote systems. At the same time, locally stored document formats have been removed from the suite, which now only has options based on remote services.
What else is changing in the suite's programs?
In PDF files, the redaction tool can now remove hidden information and annotations from documents, and new tables and settings have been added. In Linux versions, window borders have been reduced in thickness and shading has been added.
Additional improvements were made to each individual program in the suite:
- In the word processor, options for continuing numbering, the ability to follow another user's cursor movement while collaborating, and improvements to line spacing and right-to-left documents have been added.
- In the spreadsheet editor, sections affected by formulas are now highlighted, an auto-complete option has been added, saving to an older file format is supported, and complex formula calculations have been accelerated.
- In the presentation editor, new printing features and options have been added to control the visibility of hidden slides, backgrounds, and comments on printed pages.
Availability and updates
The application is available for free for Windows, macOS, and Linux. Those interested can download the latest version from the official website or from the project development page. On Linux, standalone versions are not updated automatically, but users can install the official automatic version of the program to receive updates automatically.
