Perplexity has launched 'Teammates', enabling developers and users to build AI assistants capable of running 24/7 on complex, continuous tasks.
The feature integrates with web browsers and Slack, rolling out initially for Perplexity Max subscribers.
How digital assistants work
Unlike traditional AI tools, Teammates can work around the clock, without the user having to be in front of their computer. The user communicates with them in simple words, just as they would speak to a colleague.
Assistants can use desktop apps and browsers, and can message the user's real-world colleagues via Slack. The company suggests using them in roles like advertising executive, engineer, software quality controller, or legal research assistant.
Availability and cost
This feature is currently only available through the Perplexity website and exclusively for Perplexity Max subscribers. The subscription costs $200 per month or $2.000 per year.

Currently, subscribers can use Teammates at no additional charge. However, the company has announced that in the future, their use will be based on a system of credits, with no date yet set for the change. Perplexity plans to offer this feature in its mobile apps in the future.
