A technical breakdown comparing the Sony PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 5 Pro hardware, covering architectural differences like advanced ray tracing, AI-driven resolution scaling via PSSR, Wi-Fi 7 support, storage capacities, and optical drive requirements.
The price and scarcity of floppy disks
The biggest hurdle for the more advanced console is cost. While the list price for the PlayStation 5 Pro is $899, on the used market prices range between $1.200 and $1.700.
Additionally, the more expensive model doesn't have a built-in disc slot. If you want to play physical games, you'll have to buy Sony's disc drive separately for an additional $79,99, while the PlayStation 5 Slim costs $649,99 and includes an optical drive.
Graphics and speed in games
The more powerful version delivers more realistic lighting and reflections in select games, including Alan Wake II and Doom: The Dark Ages, thanks to advanced light imaging technology. It also uses artificial intelligence to upscale games to 4K resolution while maintaining high-speed motion.

However, there is a significant limitation: out of the hundreds of options available, only more than 50 games take advantage of the Pro version's capabilities.
Storage space and internet connection
In terms of gaming space, the console has a 2 terabyte hard drive. For comparison, the PlayStation 5 Slim has 1 terabyte and the original PlayStation 5 offers 825 gigabytes.
Finally, the PlayStation 5 Pro supports Wi-Fi 7 wireless connectivity, unlike the regular PlayStation 5 which supports Wi-Fi 6.
