The Browser Company is shutting down the Arc browser on December 22, 2026, to focus development on its newer browser, Dia.

All user accounts and personal data will be purged by January 21, 2027, with data migration paths provided for bookmarks, extensions, and settings.

The timetable for the end

The shutdown process is being done gradually. As of October 22, the creation of new Arc accounts has stopped and a tool has been made available to transfer data to Dia.

On November 23, the artificial intelligence features in the Arc Search mobile app will be disabled. Users will be able to continue using the app as a standalone program for another month, without the ability to connect or sync, and there is currently no corresponding portable version of Dia for mobile.

On December 22, 2026, Arc will stop working on PCs. All accounts will be deactivated and user personal data will be deleted by January 21, 2027.

The transition to Dia and the reactions

When installing Dia on a computer, users are prompted to automatically transfer bookmarks, extensions, folders, history, passwords, profiles, and tabs from Arc. Those who previously downloaded Dia can transfer their data by selecting the relevant import setting.

The announcement of the shutdown sparked backlash from social media users, who called on the company to make the original program's code freely available. At the same time, Mozilla used the news to appeal to former Arc users, noting that its innovations affected Firefox features.
