Sony announced the WH-1000XM4C headphones at $299.99, featuring Bluetooth 6.0, the QN1 processor, and 40mm drivers.
The hardware includes a reduced 27-hour battery life complying with upcoming EU replaceable battery regulations.
Design and manufacture
The new headphones retain the same foldable construction and lightweight plastic design of the previous models. They come in three colors: black, silver, and lavender. A 3,5mm cable is included in the package, but not a charging cable, and the headphones are not officially certified for water or dust protection.
Sound and connectivity
Inside, the same components remain, such as the 40mm drivers and four-microphone noise-cancelling system. The sound has been tweaked to deliver clearer, richer vocals and tighter bass.
The wireless connection is upgraded to Bluetooth 6.0, with support for simultaneous connection to two devices and quick pairing.
Battery and application
The battery offers up to 27 hours of playtime with noise cancellation on and 34 hours with noise cancellation off, which is slightly less than the original model. The shorter battery life is due to compliance with new European Union rules that require batteries to be replaceable.
