Tesla reintroduces the Roadster and promises production in 2028

Tesla announced the redesigned Roadster targeting a 2028 production window following years of delays since its 2017 debut.

The vehicle demonstration featured a suction ramp and rocket boosters, with the Thrust trim level priced at $250,000.

At a special event held, the company showed an impressive spectacle where the car moved on a special curved ramp and then slowly floated down with the help of rockets. The head of the company, Elon Musk, confirmed during the event that production will begin in 2028. Those who want to book the special version of the car that has rockets must pay a deposit of $ 250.000.

A car with a long history of delays

This isn't the first time the company has promised this model. The refreshed Roadster was originally revealed in November 2017, with promises at the time calling for a 2020 launch. However, it has been repeatedly delayed, with the timelines pushed back to 2022, 2023, and later, with Musk first hinting at the idea of adding rockets in February 2018.

In recent years, Tesla has accepted down payments for the car ranging from $50.000 to $250.000. The long wait has previously drawn complaints from high-profile customers and content creators, such as YouTuber Marques Brownlee and OpenAI's Sam Altman, who have publicly expressed their frustration with the ongoing delays.

Before the recent event, the company had re-committed in April that the project was moving forward. Despite the new presentation and promises, it remains to be seen whether the 2028 date will be met in practice.
