Wabi, created by Replika founder Eugenia Kuyda, has raised $55M in a funding round led by IVP with backing from a16z and the Amazon Alexa Fund, valuing the company at $1.25B.
The platform is shifting from text-prompted app generation to a messaging experience focused on building lightweight utilities.
Wabi was founded by Eugenia Kuyda, the creator of the app Replika. Originally, Wabi allowed users to create apps by writing whatever they wanted. Last month, the company announced that it was changing the app to a messaging-based experience.
The new version is designed to build small apps for meals, restaurants, fitness, and games.
The new funding round was led by investment firm IVP. Andreessen Horowitz, Forerunner and Amazon Alexa Fund also participated, as well as investors Tobi Lütke, Marc Benioff, Marissa Mayer, Dick Costolo and Alex Pall.
