Warning from the mSecure application about suspicious activity

Password manager mSecure issued an email advisory to users following suspicious activity linked to the application, urging password and 2FA resets while investigations continue into whether vault data was affected.

In the message sent, the company urges users to consider changing their passwords, resetting one-time passwords, and removing any digital login keys they have stored. The instructions are given as potential security measures and do not provide details on what data was affected.

The research and the questions

The company says it has launched an investigation, taken steps to mitigate the problem, and sought the help of external security experts. So far, the message does not specify which systems were affected, when exactly the suspicious activity occurred, or how many people received the alert.

The mSecure app stores users' data encrypted on their device before syncing it across different services, such as online storage or a home network. The company itself claims that its developers do not have access to users' stored data.
