WhatsApp is rolling out updates to its Events feature, introducing a dedicated settings hub and shareable invite links that allow non-users and non-contacts to receive invitations and RSVP.
The update includes privacy safeguards such as withholding phone numbers and event addresses from non-contacts until they accept.
New location in settings and link creation
This feature has been given a separate, central place in the app's settings. Now, users can create invitation links and send them to people who are not in their contacts or don't even have WhatsApp.
To organize an event, simply go to your profile, open your settings, select events, and click the add button. You can then fill in:
- Event name and description
- Cover photo
- Date and time
- Reminder
- Location or call link
- Option to bring a companion
Responses and follow-up on invitations
Guests can respond by saying whether they will be attending, bringing a companion, unsure, or not attending. Through the new central location in settings, users can track invitations they have sent, received, or seen accepted, as well as scheduled calls. Additionally, there is the option to add the event to a calendar.
Privacy
For privacy reasons, people not saved in your contacts cannot see the organizer's phone number. Meanwhile, the exact event address is revealed to non-contacts guests only after they accept the invitation.
