Zipline raises $1,5 billion and expands drone deliveries in the US

Zipline has closed a $1.5 billion funding round, reaching a $21.5 billion valuation.

The company is leveraging these funds to scale its U.S. manufacturing and logistics infrastructure.

Key to this growth is a new multi-year agreement with Walmart to launch 300 drone delivery sites, building on the capabilities of their Platform 1 and Platform 2 hardware.

This expansion follows their 2022 FAA Part 135 certification and a significant growth in delivery-related revenue.

The partnership with Walmart

Zipline has signed a multi-year agreement with Walmart to create 300 new drone delivery locations in the U.S. The two companies began their partnership in 2021, maintaining 21 active locations to date.

Zipline intends to use the funds to expand its US manufacturing facilities and strengthen its staff, supporting the expansion of its network.

The company's drones and services

The company uses different types of drones depending on the distance and load:

  • Platform 2: It carries a weight of up to 3,6 kilograms within a radius of 16 kilometers.
  • Platform 1: It is used for distances up to 193 kilometers.

Between March and October 2026, the share of revenue coming from deliveries rose significantly, reaching 34,9% from 10,8%.

From Africa to the USA

Zipline began operations in 2014, transporting medical supplies to African countries such as Rwanda, Ghana and Nigeria. It began operating in the US in 2020 through a partnership with Novant Health. In 2022, the company received official certification from the US Civil Aviation Authority to carry out long-range commercial deliveries. Its network of partners now includes Uber, with whom it partners for Uber Eats deliveries.
