Latest round of the site-crawl series: ran the free RankForge crawler against four infrastructure/devtool sites — wordpress.org, mongodb.com, grafana.com, and prometheus.io — 10 pages each, starting from the homepage. Three of the four self-redirect their most internally-linked pages; the fourth is clean on redirects but nofollows a fifth of its outbound links.
What I ran
No account needed, so this is reproducible:
-
POST https://rankforge.cc/api/analyzerwith{"seed_url": "..."}, then pollGET /api/analyzer/<id>untilstatusiscompleted. - The crawler follows internal links breadth-first from the seed, caps at 10 pages for the anonymous tier, audits every internal redirect to its final destination (hop count included), and classifies every outbound external link as followed or nofollowed.
- Raw JSON for all four runs:
content/analyzer_20261001_<host>.json.
wordpress.org: 49 links pay for two 301 self-loops
/download and /enterprise each carry 10 inbound internal links — among the most-linked pages in the crawl — and each 301-redirects to itself. Seven more lower-traffic pages do the same, for 49 affected links total across 9 redirect targets, every one a single-hop self-loop rather than a real destination change.
grafana.com: the whole bigquery-datasource doc cluster loops
53 affected links across 9 redirect targets, concentrated in /docs/plugins/grafana-bigquery-datasource/latest and its sub-pages (/query-editor, /template-variables, /configure), each with 7 inbound links and each 301-redirecting to itself. Same single-hop self-loop pattern as wordpress.org, just concentrated in one plugin's doc tree instead of spread across the site.
prometheus.io: 45 self-redirected links, plus the crawl's only orphan page
/download, /support-training, /community, and /blog each carry 10 inbound links and each 301s to itself — 45 affected links across 8 targets. Prometheus is also the only site this round with an orphan page in the crawled set: /webtools/alerting/routing-tree-editor has zero inbound internal links from the other 9 pages crawled.
mongodb.com: clean redirects, but 22% of outbound links are nofollowed
mongodb.com's only redirect is the expected mongodb.com → www.mongodb.com normalization (1 link affected) — no self-loops. But of its 109 external links, 24 (22%) carry rel=nofollow, the highest nofollow ratio this series has recorded outside a dedicated nofollow-by-policy blog. wordpress.org, grafana.com, and prometheus.io nofollow 0% of their external links.
Try it on your own site
Same checks (orphan pages, near-orphans, internal authority distribution, redirect-chain hops, external nofollow audit) run in one pass, no signup: rankforge.cc/audit.
