Hello again, DEV! After quite the hiatus, I’m coming back to the community.
A little background: I was an MLH Coach and a GitHub Campus Expert during my CS degree, and since then I’ve put that experience to use as a CS teacher. Now I want to make time for my own projects and share them with the wider dev community again.
I’m starting with two series.
Learning in Public
I’m learning JavaScript, and I’ll document the whole process here: what I build, what I get stuck on, and what finally clicks. Expect real projects, real errors and honest write-ups, so you can learn alongside me.
Cuppa and Code
Coding fundamentals for complete beginners, in the time it takes to have a tea break (I am British, after all). Each post covers one concept and comes with a jupyter notebook you can open and run, so you can read, try it and still finish your brew. No experience required, and any hot drink counts!
The first Cuppa and Code post is coming soon, so follow along if either series sounds like your thing.
And a question for you: what was the first error message that made you want to give up on coding? Tell me in the comments, and I might turn the best ones into posts!
Top comments (3)
The first error that made me want to quit was 'Segmentation fault (core dumped)' in C. No line number, no explanation, just a vague sense of failure. It took me a week to learn how to use a debugger, and that week almost ended my coding journey.
I feel like we hardly ever teach people how to debug code when we are teaching them to code!
Hey Amy, welcome back to DEV ❤️ I'm Hema. I don't think we've crossed paths before, but I'll be looking forward to your posts. Wishing you all the best with both series 😃
