I used to enjoy tinkering with open-source remote connection tools like Moonlight and Sunshine myself. However, after taking a break from remote connectivity and then returning to remote work, I realized that dedicated remote control software is simply more convenient—so I’ve compromised on that front. lol.
I really enjoy traveling and seeking out leisure activities. While I am open to working during my leisure time, I dislike the idea of being confined to an office, which is why I became a digital nomad. Consequently, I have experimented with various remote work methods; I still find using remote access software far more convenient than setting up a custom remote environment myself. This way, I can choose to travel and live elsewhere with just my phone or a basic laptop, without falling behind on work.
As for the remote control software already on the market, there is a good reason for the paid versions—they are genuinely convenient and easy to use, saving me the hassle of setting up servers or dealing with technical complexities. All things considered, I find them to offer great value for money. For instance, I’ve been using Awesun a lot lately; I can stick with the free version when I don't want to pay, and simply upgrade to the premium version whenever I decide I want access to the advanced features.
I can share what I find useful about using AweSun—though, of course, you could also use other remote control software like AnyDesk or TeamViewer. Personally, I find AnyDesk less intuitive than AweSun, but ultimately, the choice depends on your own preferences and needs.
Simple installation steps
First, simply install the software from the official Awesun website onto the devices you wish to connect.
Then, regardless of whether you are logged into an account, you can successfully connect simply by entering the other party's device code and temporary password—a process that is both simple and secure. However, I personally prefer logging into the same account, as this allows you to manage your devices via the device list.
The connection is now successful.
What works well for me
Honestly, basic remote control features are enough for my daily needs. However, I don't just use the software for work—I also use it for gaming. Plus, a good friend of mine who lives a nomadic lifestyle sometimes needs advanced features to tweak her design drafts, so we share the same account and subscription. It actually works really well.
I use the "Global" membership plan; the specific features I’ve utilized include:
- High-speed file transfer
- 4K/8K high-definition image quality
- YUV 4:4:4 color support
- High frame rates—reportedly up to 144 fps; in actual gameplay, it generally hovers around that 144 fps mark
- Game controller mapping, gaming keyboard support, etc.
Of course, I don't use remote access software every time I play games; I still think going to an internet café is better.
If you're interested
I am simply sharing my personal views. If you are interested in the remote computer access software I mentioned, you might want to check out their blog or official website; there are some features I haven't used myself, so you can try them out firsthand.
