AWS re/Start – My Week 8 Experience

Week 8 – Two Months In, We Are Moving

Two months down, and we are still moving strong. Welcome to Week 8.

Day 35

Today at Restart, we rounded up on databases. It felt good to learn about databases because they are so important in our application.

Day 36

Today at Restart, the focus was on networking. Not computer networking this time, but personal networking. Many of us, including me, are guilty of overlooking how important it is to build connections online and in person. Networking matters in tech and in life.

We also looked at AWS architecture and how businesses should approach moving their infrastructure to the cloud. It is not something you just wake up and do. The AWS Cloud Adoption Framework (CAF) provides guidelines that help organisations plan effective migrations.

It considers people, process and technology. Business leaders and technical teams need to understand both the current state and the target state. From the business side, you think about business, people and governance. From the technical side, you consider platform, security and operations. When everything aligns, we have a wholesome plan for migration bring about a successful cloud adoption business plan.

Day 37

Today at Restart was actually a break because of Nigeria’s Independence Day. 🥂🥳 Public holiday.

Day 38

We are back from the short break. It was refreshing because, honestly, every day should not be about the computer. We wrapped up the AWS infrastructure module and added a bit of soft skills.

Day 39

Today at Restart, we started on system operations. A system operator’s role is to build, test, maintain, deploy and safeguard systems. They accomplish all this in an automated manner. We also saw how the AWS Command Line can be used to communicate directly with infrastructure.

Reflection – My Week 8 Takeaway

This week reminded me that tech is not just about coding or cloud tools. It is also about people, planning and balance. The networking session resonated with me because sometimes we focus solely on acquiring hard skills and forget that relationships matter too. The public holiday was also a good reminder to rest because growth needs balance.
