I Built a Free Brand Guidelines Generator (Because Canva Pro Costs $180/Year)

Last year I was helping a friend put together a brand guidelines document for their freelance business. They needed something professional — a clean PDF with their logo, color palette, typography choices, and a short brand description.

I opened Canva Pro. Found a decent template. Filled in the details. Hit download.

It worked. But then I thought: I just spent 20 minutes on a single brand guide. And I'm paying $180 a year for this? For something I'll maybe use twice?

So I built something better that afternoon.

The Problem

Canva Pro is fantastic — if you're a full-time designer or a team that needs it every day. But for solo freelancers who need a brand guidelines document once or twice a year, it's overkill and overpriced:

  1. $180/year for a tool you barely use
  2. Account required — your brand assets live on Canva's servers
  3. Subscription lock-in — cancel and your templates go with it
  4. No offline access — you need internet every time you want to export

It's like subscribing to a gym you visit twice a year.

What I Built

Visual Identity Brand Guidelines Kit Generator — a purpose-built, free, browser-based tool for freelancers.

  • No account. Open the page, fill in your brand details, download.
  • No subscription. Free forever — no "Pro" tier, no watermarks.
  • No data collection. Everything runs in your browser. Your brand assets never leave your device.
  • Works offline. Once loaded, you don't need internet.
  • Print-ready PDF. One click to export a clean, professional brand guide.

Features

  • Live preview — See your brand guide change in real time as you edit brand name, colors, fonts, and logo.
  • 5-color palette — Define your primary, secondary, accent, neutral, and highlight colors.
  • Typography pairing — Choose primary and secondary fonts from a curated list.
  • Logo upload — Add your logo directly from your device. No server, no upload.
  • Instant PDF export — One click to download a print-ready brand guidelines document.
  • Privacy first — 100% client-side. No server processing, no data storage.

Why It Matters

As a freelancer, your brand identity is your business. But you shouldn't have to pay $180/year to a big platform just to document it. This tool exists because that's ridiculous.

Open source, free forever, no data collection. That's the standard.
