I Stopped Paying SendCheckup $29/mo for Subject Line Analysis — Here's What I Built Instead
As an email marketer, I needed a reliable way to check my subject lines before sending campaigns. A colleague recommended SendCheckup — the tool that claims to predict whether your subject line will land in the inbox or the spam folder.
I was excited until I saw the pricing: $29/month for basic access.
That's $348 a year for something I use a handful of times per week. So I did what any self-respecting developer would do: I built a free alternative.
The Problem with Paid Subject Line Tools
SendCheckup and similar services are fine if you have the budget. But for solopreneurs, indie marketers, and small teams, $29/month adds up fast — especially when you're already paying for email deliverability tools, ESPs, and analytics platforms.
And you're not just paying money. You're also paying with:
- Your data: Subject lines get uploaded to their servers. That's sensitive marketing intel.
- Waiting: Queue-based analysis means you're not getting instant feedback.
- Account lock-in: You need to create an account, verify email, manage credentials.
- Rate limits: Even on paid plans, there are caps on how many subject lines you can check.
What I Built Instead
I created a free, browser-based Email Subject Line Optimizer that runs entirely in your browser. No account needed. No payment required. No data uploaded anywhere.
Here's what it does:
- Character count analysis — flags subjects that are too short (<6) or too long (>70), with optimal range guidance
- Spam trigger detection — scans for 30+ words and phrases that commonly trigger spam filters (e.g., "$$$", "click here", "act now", "winner")
- Power word identification — highlights 50+ power words that boost open rates (e.g., "free", "exclusive", "limited", "discover")
- Sentiment scoring — analyzes positive/negative word balance to flag overly negative or missing positive framing
- Overall optimization score — 0-100 composite score with breakdown by category
- Tone guidance — Professional, Casual, Urgent, or Curiosity tone presets with tailored suggestions
- Multi-line support — paste multiple subject lines, one per line, and get individual + summary analysis
- Copy & download — one-click copy to clipboard or download as .txt
Everything runs client-side. Your subject lines never leave your device.
The Result
I've been using the tool for my own campaigns, and it catches the same spam triggers SendCheckup would flag — plus sentiment and power word insights SendCheckup doesn't even offer. I saved $348/year and kept my marketing data private.
That's money I put toward ad spend instead.
