Every Monday morning, the same ritual plays out on engineering teams everywhere. You open Jira. You check what moved overnight. You copy ticket statuses into a Notion dashboard. You calculate sprint completion percentages. You write a standup brief.
None of this is engineering. All of it takes an hour.
I wanted to see if I could automate all three tasks and run them simultaneously. Not as a thought experiment -- as a real workflow I could use every week.
Here's what happened.
The Setup
I used ZenFlow Work, which connects to tools like Jira and Notion and lets you build AI-powered automations from templates. The three automations I built:
1. Jira Standup Brief -- pulls what moved overnight across my project board and writes a 5-bullet summary. No more scanning 30 tickets to figure out what happened while I was asleep.
2. Sprint Dashboard Sync -- takes in-progress and completed issues from Jira and syncs them into a Notion table. The kind of thing you'd normally do by hand every morning before standup.
3. Sprint Retro Data -- calculates completion rate by team member and formats it in Notion. This is the data you scramble to pull together 10 minutes before your retro meeting.
The Demo
All three automations built from templates. All three triggered at the same time. All three completed while I watched.
Total time from start to finish: about 2 minutes.
What Surprised Me
The individual automations weren't the impressive part. Any one of them saves maybe 10 minutes. The interesting part was running all three in parallel. That's the workflow pattern that actually changes your morning -- you're not automating one task, you're automating the entire pre-standup routine.
The other thing that stood out: the output was actually usable. The standup brief wasn't a vague summary -- it pulled specific ticket IDs and status changes. The retro data had real completion percentages. I didn't have to clean anything up.
Who This Is For
If you're an engineering manager or tech lead who spends the first chunk of every day gathering data from project management tools before you can do actual work, this is the kind of automation worth looking at.
If you're an IC who just wants to know what happened overnight without opening 4 tabs, same thing.
The full 2-minute demo is above. No fluff, just the build and the result.
