CrewAI — purpose-built for role-based multi-agent teams, where agents hand off work to each other in sequence. Open-source core, paid enterprise tier available.
Claude Agent SDK — for teams building custom agent products directly against Claude's models, with fine-grained control over tool use and reasoning. Usage-based pricing via API consumption rather than a flat platform fee.
Relay.app — lightweight, small-business-friendly automation with human-in-the-loop approval steps built in. Good option if you want a safety net on agent actions without enterprise complexity.
Why most lists get this wrong
Most content ranking for "AI agent platform" conflates it with chatbot builders and plain workflow automation, then wonders why readers pick the wrong tool. The real distinction: an AI agent platform lets a system reason through a goal across multiple steps and adapt when something unexpected happens — not just follow a fixed script.
