What is Venice.ai?
Venice.ai is an API platform with a clear focus: giving you private, unrestricted access to the leading AI models — text, image, video and audio — under a single API key.

Four tiers of privacy
Venice offers four privacy tiers:
- Anonymized: third-party models with identifying metadata stripped.
- Private: zero data retention, self-hosted open-source models.
- TEE: models running inside hardware-secured enclaves (Trusted Execution Environments) — Venice cannot access the computation.
- E2EE: end-to-end encryption; prompts are encrypted client-side and only the enclave can decrypt them.
Pricing
Three ways to pay:
- Credits (USD or crypto): prepaid, never expire.
- DIEM / VVV: stake tokens for a daily inference allowance, no per-call charges.
- x402: pay per request from any Base wallet in USDC, no account or API key required (built for agents).
Configuring your API key (step by step)
1. Generate your key
- Go to https://venice.ai/settings/api (or
APIinside the app settings). - Click Generate New API Key and configure:
- Description: a short name identifying the app or environment.

Inference Onlyfor normal model requests;Adminonly if the key must manage API keys programmatically. - Expires at: optional expiration (leave blank for no expiration).
- Epoch Consumption Limits: optional cap on spend per 24-hour epoch.
- Click Generate.
- Copy the key immediately — it is shown only once. If you lose it, delete it and create a new one.
⚠️ Before using it, make sure the account has a spendable balance (DIEM, bundled credits, or USD). You can create the key before funding the account, but model requests will fail until a balance is available.
2. Store it securely
Save the key to your environment or a secret manager:

3. Verify it works
Make a low-risk request to confirm authentication:

A successful response returns the available models. The header must be formatted as Authorization: Bearer <key>.
4. Make your first call
Since Venice is OpenAI-compatible, use the OpenAI SDK and change only the base_url:

You can also tune responses with temperature, max_tokens, top_p, frequency_penalty and presence_penalty, and use stream=True for real-time responses.
